Your EQ is at least as important as your IQ

  • Know yourself and how you can flex your personal style
    as needed to succeed on-the-job.
  • Do not become defensive when a boss criticizes since that
    is his or her job.
  • Express helpful knowledge in a respectful way.
  • Develop a set of mutual expectations. Know what your boss
considers important. Establish mutually acceptable priorities
and goals and then work towards their attainment.
  • Manage the flow of information. Bosses need to know what
is being done because they are responsible for what gets done.
Most bosses do not like surprises. Communicate when the
    time is right.
  • Be dependable and straightforward. Relationships are built on
    trust as well as accomplishment.
  • Don't waste your boss's time. Only involve them in important
    decisions.
