Infighting
Employees
"I
should have known I'd pay for this
later," you remarked to no one in
particular as Bill left your office.
"One afternoon off to do some
shopping and now half the staff's mad
at me."
Unfortunately,
most of the rest of the
staff had been gone too -- including
the senior employees you usually left
in charge. So you told Pete to take
over the office while you were gone,
and now you've spent most of the
morning hearing about
"Favoritism."
"But if
it weren't this it would just be
something else," you muse. "Such a
talented group of people, but they're
always fighting about something."

Chewed
out in front of peers.
"...You
screw up like this once more
and you're history!" Your boss
banged the desk for emphasis, then
turned and stomped out of the
room.
The
three other managers in the room
with you looked at each other and
followed him out without a word. Joyce
was the last one out, and she looked
back at you and shrugged as she
left.
This
wasn't the first time he had chewed
you out but this was the first time he
did it in front of your peers. Joyce
and
Mark were embarassed; Bernie kept a
straight face, but you know he was
delighted.
You
drop your head into your hands,
wondering how to overcome this.

Boss
wants someone else in your
job
"Marv,
are you absolutely sure that's
what you heard?"
"No
question about it. He told Phyllis
that if she'd keep doing what he told
her,
he'd have her in your job by April.
And
I tell you, he meant it."
"Marv,
I really appreciate your telling
me this. Now I see why he's been
leaning
on me like he has. All I have to
figure
out is what to do..."

Your
boss doesn't like you
"Mario,
you really don't know why you
have such a hard time with Ms. Estridge?"
"No, I
do everything the way I think she
wants, and it's never right. Nothing
ever
satisifes her. I'd love for you to tell
me
why."
"It's
simple. She doesn't like you." "Why?
What have I ever done to make her
dislike me?"
"That I
don't know -- but I know she
doesn't like you. I heard her in the
cafeteria last Tuesday, telling Mr.
Harris how much you irritate her."
