10 - In Conclusion: Looking back, now that the
portfolio is almost done, this is what we could
____have done
better.
Overview of the Plan: Open and honest
communication is the key to success. The thing that
would
make this process flow better would be to make sure
everyone was committed to the goal, to use of
the
Team Assessment process immediately after each
class as a way to force open and honest
communication
as to how each team member could better meet other
team member expectations and contribute more
effectively towards attainment of the team
goal.
Team
Development: Encourage self-identification of
strengths and work preferences and share this
knowledge in a cooperative way that encourages
collaboration. Standard: Each person will
willingly
accept a fair share of the work, agree to meet
deadlines and establish how work will be safely
saved and shared.
Team
Covenant: Establish guidelines which define how
each team member will relate to and work with
every other team member and the team as a whole.
Standard: The team will develop a statement
that
every team member agrees to abide by and a feedback
system that enforces compliance with this
standard will be signed-off by each
team member.
Leadership:
Establish the rules that govern the conditions that
determine who is to assume leadership given
the circumstances encountered. Standard:
Each team member will cheerfully assume the role
of leader
when he or she is the person most qualified to be
the leader. Conversely, each team member will
follow
and support the person who is serving in the role
of leader.
Encourage
Assertiveness: Establish a tradition of tactful
yet direct and open communi-cation that makes
it
impossible to ignore the brutal truth.
Standard: Team members continue to
function as a team and react
in a constructive way even when confronted with
news they do not necessarily want to hear.
Adapt
to the Environment: Develop a contingency plan
that makes it possible to meet production and
process standards when conditions change.
Standard: Progress will be on schedule even
if individual team
members encounter circumstances that make it
impossible for them to meet their obligations or a
change in the
schedule makes it impossible for the class to meet
at its regularly scheduled time and place.
Organization
Design: Create a chart that clearly illustrates
who does what with whom. Standard: Each
team
member can point to the chart and explain exactly
what it means in regard to his or her
responsibility.
Performance Problems: Develop a way to
deal with individual and team failure to meet that
makes things
interpersonally acceptable while meeting production
goals. Standard: The team achieves
production goals
and each team member sincerely believes every other
team member has in fact earned all possible
participation points.
